Building Efficiency: Identifying ways to improve building efficiency based on financing goals, timing, and other constraints

The Sustainability in Affordable Housing Lender Learning Network, a community of CDFIs and other affordable multifamily housing lenders, hosts webinars that provide insights into making water and energy efficiency investments in affordable multifamily housing properties.

Building on the first session on understanding the positive impacts of energy and water efficiency lending, this webinar provided a breakdown of what incorporating efficiency can look like at three different levels of capital investment as described in the Underwriting Efficiency Lender Handbook. The webinar reviewed low-cost efficiency measures that can be done today as well as larger investments that can be included as part of capital planning or mortgage refinance. Attendees gained with a firmer understanding of efficiency opportunities available for multifamily buildings and how the existing CDFI landscape can support project finance. This webinar featured Elizabeth Kelly, Manager of Sustainability Programs, Community Preservation Corporation, and Jon Braman, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Bright Power.
