National Development Banks and Green Investment Banks: Mobilizing Finance in Latin America and the Caribbean Toward the Implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions
This June 2017 issue paper was prepared by the Natural Resources Defense Council with the support of Climate Finance
Advisors in preparation for the conference National Development Banks and Green Banks: Key Institutions for Mobilizing Finance Towards the Implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The paper is intended to provide context for the more thorough examination of:
- potential opportunities for knowledge exchanges between existing green investment banks (GIBs) and national
development banks (NDBs) in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region; and - ways in which the green investment bank model could be adapted to the LAC context to enhance the region’s ability to
invest in low-carbon and climate resilient infrastructure at the scale and pace required to meet NDCs and achieve SDGs.
